Got wind? Energy problem solved

A REPORT has found wind power could be the key to solving an imminent energy crisis in NSW.

The Australian Energy Market Operator predicts wind generation investment will significantly increase in the next four years and wind farms could be a viable solution to supply woes particularly in peak cold and hot periods.

The State Government has drafted stringent guidelines for new wind farm developments.

NSW Planning Minister, Brad Hazzard, told the Herald, the government was close to finalising guidelines for wind farms and was happy to support "well-planned wind farms, which do not cause unreasonable impacts on local communities and residents".

"In regard to fees, wind farms pay fees based on a capital investment value scale which also applies to other major projects in NSW," he said.

"These fees pay for the department's independent, rigorous and detailed assessment process."
