Good wins land grand final berths

THE North Coast Football 16 years girls and 15 years boys teams booked a spot in the State Youth League grand finals after impressive results in the weekend's semi finals played in Newcastle.

The 15 years boys had to come from behind to defeat Newcastle 2-1 on Saturday with goals to Judd Duncan and Zac Smith.

Smith's goal, in particular, has been singled out for praise not just because it proved to be the winner but was a screamer a player usually dreams of scoring.

The 16 years girls played an unusual match against Mid North Coast.

First half goals to Brittany Rollason and Jessie Gentle were followed up by a goal to Dael Wulff early in the second half before an on field injury to a Mid North Coast girl halted the game for 25 minutes while an ambulance arrived.

When the match was restarted, only one minute of time was played before the referee blew full time.

Under the tournament rules, no injury time was allowed and so the match finished in an anti climax, even though

NCF had completely dominated to that point.

The 14 years boys were outplayed on a mud pitch at Lake Macquarie after torrential overnight rain made conditions very difficult. However, Newcastle made the most of the conditions and deserved the win.

The NCF 15s and 16s faced one last night of training before the trip back to Newcastle on Sunday for their grand finals.
