Good catches luring anglers

THE Rainbow Beach fishing scene has been firing lately with pearl perch, snapper, tuskfish, maori cod, red emperor, cobia and mahi mahi caught about 18nm east of the Wide Bay Bar.

On top of that there have been several big spanish mackerel taken off Double Island Point.

Over the last couple of weeks reports of moses perch, grass sweetlip and mahi mahi or dolphin fish with amberjack, pearl perch and cod on North Reef.

Solid catches of spotty mackerel and northern bluefin or longtail tuna filtering through Laguna Bay and Big Hall's reef as well as pearl perch, tuskfish, maori cod and a 10kg spanish mackerel on Sunshine Reef.

In the southern reaches of the Sunshine Coast mahi mahi and mackerel have been spotted on the Caloundra 12 mile reef. Tuskfish, snapper, sweetlip and coral trout at dusk on Murphy's Reef and the Inner Gneerings and school mackerel around the NW fairway buoy.

There is plenty of spanish mackerel off Point Cartwright, on the Gneering Shoals and Coolum Reef with snapper and mahi mahi at the Hards.

The estuary scene has also provided for anglers particularly in the Fraser Island and Cooloola Coast regions.

There have been catches of dart and whiting along the eastern beaches with mackerel and jew feeding close and behind the breakers but unfortunately there are still reports of weed in some of the gutters.

In Noosa there are good flathead throughout the system with several big fish released recently including an 80cm flathead around the river mouth on a Noosa River Fishing Safari.

Golden trevally have been caught, in the lower estuary around the top of the tide as well as a few big flathead caught and released and the odd tailor in Woods Bay.

A few nice grunter bream along the Tewantin reach and in Lake Cooroibah with plenty of mangrove jack feeding throughout the river system.

The mud crabs are on in the mid to upper reaches.

Further south, Maroochydore have seen whiting over night with some nice flathead in the 60cm range and golden trevally in the lower river.

There are flathead and jacks in Coolum Creek and even some barra released in the Maroochy Waters canal as well as plenty of bream, a few grunter, and flathead in Petrie Creek.

News of some big flathead and a few jacks in the Cod Hole while whiting from Bli Bli flats and around the Bli Bli Islands with some mud crabs in the middle river up to 1.8kg.

Kawana has seen dart and whiting in the gutters, south of Pt Cartwright with golden trevally in the Mooloolah River.
