Glorious heights for creative partnership
GLORIOUS Heights is the sophomore album by Sydney artists Montaigne.
Armed with singles such as Because I Love You, In The Dark, Clip My Wings and the title track, Glorious Heights is the culmination of a fast-paced period of personal and professional growth for Jess Cerro, aka Montaigne.
Born in Malaysia to an Argentinean professional soccer player and a Spanish-Filipino mother, Jess moved with her family to Canberra at the age of 2, and then to Sydney, where she grew up.
After her first solo performance at Splendour in the Grass last July, Montaigne comes to Toowoomba Carnival as one of the most important young voices in Australia.
Montaigne said she is just happy to have the album out and to be singing it for us.
"It is such a big thing for me to finally have this album out, and share it with everyone," she said.
The artist acknowledged the fact that the songs in this album are very different from each other.
"They all sound different because they all come from different places in my heart, and Tony (Buchen) as well, my producer, he brought his own influences to it," she said.
"That collaborative partnership is what bring the uniqueness, because the songs are not entirely me and not entirely him."
Montaigne said she loved writing songs and singing about complicated subjects.
"Yes, I love playing with fire," she said.
"I think those subjects come out of my songwriting naturally, but I am also aware of the way my mind works."
Toowoomba audiences will be treated to a show at the Ergon Energy Flower, Food and Wine Festival on Friday, September 16.
