Gladstone's Baker is still 'pinching' herself ahead of NRLW

NRLW: Chelsea Baker will be chock full of confidence when she runs on with the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow in the historic season opening match of the women's national competition.

Gladstone Wallabys and Jillaroo Baker starred for the Broncos in last week's trial match against PMG Orchids.

And tomorrow's match against St George Illawarra Dragons is just another addition to her coveted CV.

"It's right up there with the top achievements of my career," Baker said.

"I didn't think ever that I'd be playing footy when the NRLW started," she said.

"So the fact that I'm a part of it is just absolutely fantastic and I still pinch myself every day and say 'am I really here'."

The star fullback said Dragons - as with most of the teams - would be an unknown quantity.

"All of the teams will be as equally as hard and I don't think one team's going to be harder than the rest," she said.

"You can't underestimate any of them."

Wallabys coach Dan Burns said Baker deserved all the success that had (and will) come her way.

"It's great for her, her family and her supporters," he said.

"She has made all the sacrifices to get her to where she is.

"It just shows that if you are good enough, then there is an NRL pathway for women, especially now that it's a defined pathway for juniors 14-17 years in Gladstone."
