HMAS Gladstone needs funds for necessary facelift
HMAS Gladstone will provide a unique aspect of history at the East Shores redevelopment - if it can get a $100,000 spruce up first.
But the community group-owned Fremantle Class Patrol boat needs help to raise the funds for the cost to sandblast, clean and paint the ship from the boat down.
The new precinct will include a wet-dock area, where the ship will be moved to.
Gladstone Maritime Museum Society president Lindsay Wassell said they were reaching out to other large businesses or industries that could help in the preparatory tasks.
"Gladstone owns her and she will complement that place (the Coal Exporters Maritime Precinct) so beautifully," he said.
"We really need people to dig deep."
HMAS Gladstone patrolled the northern Queensland seas for illegal fishing boats and immigrants between 1984-2006.
It has been moored in the Gladstone harbour since being decommissioned.
