Butchers help keep chopper in the air

COFFS Coast butchers are a cut above the rest, after helping to raise more than $50,000 to keep a rescue helicopter service in the air.

The Give a Dog a Bone campaign sees 45 butchers from the North Coast donating the proceeds of their dog bone sales to the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.

Business development manager, Nyree Epplett, said the butchers are right behind the campaign and raised more than $50,000 already.

“I believe they are looking to increase their already impressive total to $100,000,” Ms Epplett said.

“It is the continued support of local businesses like the butchers participating in this campaign across the flight service that enables the rescue helicopter service to keep flying.”

The campaign was started by Lismore butcher Geoff Compton, who kicked off the campaign after his brother was airlifted by the helicopter in 2006, but Coffs Coast butchers have also chipped in to raise the impressive figure.

Local butchers involved in the campaign include Woolgoolga's Finest, Woolgoolga Quality Meat Mart, Sawtell Quality Meats, Nambucca Heads Plaza Butchery, Taylor R Urunga Butchery, UBC Butchery, and Ward's Butchery in Dorrigo.
