Girls make full recovery after snake bites

TWO Grafton teenage girls bitten by snakes at Minnie Water on Tuesday night are out of hospital after making a full recovery.

The girls, Poppi Kroehnert and Ellenie Whyte, both aged 17, were bitten by different snakes in Taraygir National Park's Illaroo campsite at Minnie Water in a 90-minute period around midnight.

Ms Kroehnert said she was bitten by a Stephens' banded snake and her friend, Ms Whyte, by a brown snake.

The snake attacks took place within 5m of each other, but more than an hour apart.

Ms Kroehnert said she was receiving treatment from a paramedic when her friend was bitten.

"I was having a splint put on my leg when Ellenie came up and said she had been bitten," she said. "It all got a bit hectic for a while."

Both girls were taken to Grafton Base Hospital.

The girls will tell their story in The Daily Examiner tomorrow.
