Gillett not being rested, says coach

BRIBIE Island's State of Origin enforcer Matt Gillett will not be rushed back for Brisbane's home clash with struggling Cronulla on Friday night.

Fellow Broncos Corey Parker and Andrew McCullough are also set to miss the match.

However, Broncos coach Anthony Griffin made it clear the three players were not being "rested" in anticipation of the Sharks, who have not scored a point in their last three games, being a pushover.

"I don't take any notice of that," Griffin told APN.

Justin Hodges was rested from the 19-10 loss to the Warriors but will play against the Sharks.

But Parker (facial fracture), McCullogh (knee) and Gillett (shoulder), who lasted just 10 minutes against the Warriors, will be given an extra week off with the Broncos scheduled to have a bye following the Cronulla game.

"Parker and McCullough and possibly Gillo (Gillett) will be back after the bye when he have nine weeks leading into the finals," Griffin said.

Gillett was among Queensland's best players in the first State of Origin match last month and was solid in game two last week.

He is expected to be fit for the third clash at Suncorp Stadium next month.

Meanwhile, Griffin also said he was more than pleased with the effort of Jake Granville at hooker against the Warriors.

"It was never going to be easy for Jake with Andrew being an 80-minute player for us, and such a major contributor to what we do, but I thought he did a really good job," Griffin said.

"He played about 60 minutes and ran a lot of our attack really well."
