Gilchrist honoured by patron role

RETIRED Australian Cricket superstar Adam Gilchrist returned to Lismore today to be inducted as patron in the Northern New South Wales branch of the Lord’s Taverners.

Gilchrist was the guest of honour at the Lord’s Taverners Tops Sports Luncheon held at Southern Cross University.

He spoke in front of a crowd of up to 140 people reflecting on his career and giving his opinion on the current Australian cricket team and the up coming Ashes series.

He said while England has the momentum going into the much anticpated clash, the team that has the best attitude and determination will win the series.

Several pieces of cricket memorabilia were auctioned off including a cricket bat signed by the great Sir Donald Bradman.

Gilchrist said that although he rarely gets the chance to visit the area he still calls Lismore home.
