Getting to the meat of the problem of dogs' food allergies

NINETTA Giezendanner had no idea a frustration with her blue staffordshire bull terrier's food allergy would one day lead to a productive business.

For Ninetta, her dog's health is a priority, but she initially could not find good-quality pet food that would avoid a skin reaction in Rosie.

"We moved to the Sunshine Coast with our two pets (Rosie and China) and we were finding it hard to find a good-quality meat product to continue our dogs' feeding,” she said.

"A lot of people have been looking for just raw, fresh meat that they can feed their dogs and go back to a healthy diet.

"We ultimately decided that we would bring our old Townsville supplier down here to supply us, and then we started the business in late December-early January this year.”

The organic food Ninetta supplies through her business, Superior Pet Food, helped take her dog, and many of her customers' dogs off allergy medication.

The preservative-free food has helped clear up the skin reaction many dogs get from eating chemically-altered dog food.

"We don't have any preservatives, we don't have any fillers, we don't have any additives and all our meat is boned and frozen the same day it comes in,” she said.

"This allows our customers to add their own vegies or additives if they wanted to add them as it is just pure meat product served up to do what you like with.

"A lot of dogs that have food allergies do especially well with our roo products, as the roo is not farmed the same way it is for the supermarkets.”

Superior Pet Food is available every Saturday at the Yandina markets, but Ninetta also delivers directly customers' doors through her Superior Pet Food Sunshine Coast Facebook page.

"With any of our products, if you order 5kg or more, I deliver from Cooroy to Mountain Creek and Nambour with free delivery,” she said.

"Going to Yandina Markets on a Saturday gives us that wider range for clients that don't want to purchase 5kg - because they can come see us at the markets and just pick up what they need for their pets - and also to get our name out there.”

Ninetta said her loyal customers kept coming back because they realised the difference a good diet made to their pets.

"I get a lot of feedback from dog and cat owners telling me their pets won't eat anything else - they're hooked on it,” she said.
