Get On shows she’s still got some form to claim top win

RACING: She may be in the twilight of her career but $41 outsider Get On showed she still has some fight left after taking out the James Ackerman Benchmark 70 Handicap 1600m at Corbould Park yesterday.

The seven-year-old had the second longest odds in the 12 horse field but did not show it as she put together a strong finish to edge out Skating Way ($8) and favourite Exemption ($3).

"She's been a great little horse and we originally brought her up from Melbourne and was an untried little thing," owner and trainer Trevor Thomas said.

"Never won a maiden with her and I thought that's probably as far as she'll go but every time I bring her back she just keeps improving.

"She's probably in her twilight, but given the right circumstances, she can let down with a lethal run which she did today."

Thomas said as Get On got older, the longer distances were becoming her suited race format.

"She's really a 1400m horse, but as she's got a bit older, she has just lost a little bit of tactical speed early," he said.
