BERNARD Tomic and his teammates will need to serve up an ace performance if Australia is to play its way back into the World Group of the Davis Cup.

Australia faces a tough task to do just that after being drawn to face Germany away from home in the play-off round in September.

A 5-0 whitewash of South Korea last week earned Australia the right to play off for the right to rejoin the top tier of Davis Cup nations, but a trip to Germany for the tie on September 14-16 will not be easy.

Germany were beaten 4-1 by Argentina in their World Group Round 1 tie, but with players the calibre of Florian Mayer (world No.20), Philipp Kohlschreiber (No.34), Philipp Petzschner (No.76) and veteran Tommy Haas to call on, they will be no pushover, particularly at home.

In the other World Group play-offs, Kazakhstan host neighbours Uzbekistan, Israel travel to Japan, Belgium welcome Sweden, South Africa face Canada, Brazil host Russia, Chile meet Italy and Roger Federer's Switzerland do battle with the Netherlands.
