By George we're tired of waiting for the RTA

GEORGE Hicks is sick of waiting for the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) to announce their plans for the highway route through the Nambucca Shire.

At Thursday night's council meeting the mayor asked fellow councillors to support his mayoral minute requesting the RTA to make staff available for two public meetings to deal with the Warrell Creek to Macksville and Macksville to Urunga routes.

"I am extremely concerned with the ongoing delay in the RTA's plans for the highway upgrade and the effect this is having on those affected residents," Cr Hicks said.

"At Warrell Creek the delays are even more pronounced as a preferred route announced in the 1990s may now be discarded, affecting the lives and investment decisions of many."

He said the council needed to ensure the RTA acted in a timely and just way in dealing with the highway upgrade.

"Given the course of events to date it could not be said that the decision-making process has been timely.

"The speed with which properties are compulsorily acquired will be one indicator of justice."

His motion was supported unanimously.
