Generous shopper wins chance of a lifetime
THE gift of a donation towards whale research through the Gowings Whale Trust will see Helen Lamber holiday in Tonga soon and enjoy a swim with migrating humpbacks.
Helen won the competition offering a holiday to swim with whales in the South Pacific run through the Gowings Bros Pacific Coast Shopping centres in Port Macquarie, Kempsey, Coffs Harbour and Moonee Beach.
The Gowings Whale Trust was established in July, 2000 to assist in research to ensure humpback whales survive long into the future.
John Gowing returns from Tonga this week after participating in the University of Sunshine Coast Queensland's research program into the effect of swimming with whales has on the whales.
This is a partnership with the Trust, the university and Quest Tours which operates out of Forster and host regular tours to Tonga.
"We are also working with our local whale watching tour operators in Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour to raise awareness of the trust to those interested in these majestic creatures," Gowings Whale Trust local spokeswoman Ann-Maree Crowe said.
Coffs and Port shopping centres accept donations to the trust at their concierge desks and also sell souvenirs with profits going to the whale trust.
