Gas company in cold water

PATIENTS and staff at Macksville Hospital were not happy to find themselves without hot water on Sunday morning.

A source, who asked to remain anonymous, said nurses were forced to bathe patients with bowls using hot water from the urn in the kitchen.

“The gas bottles were empty and although those who needed to know were made aware of the problem on Saturday, no action was taken,” the source said.

“Everyone was disgusted that this should have happened.”

A North Coast Area Health Service spokesperson yesterday said an investigation in to the hospital’s loss of hot water had found it was the result of human error at the gas supply company.

The spokesperson said management apologised for the inconvenience caused as a result of the error.

“Steps have been taken to ensure this is an isolated incident.”
