Gameiro's injury woes may end his season with Sydney FC

TALENTED young Sydney FC striker Corey Gameiro's horror luck on the injury front has continued, sustaining a suspected season-ending ruptured ACL on international duty.

The 21-year-old (pictured) injured his knee playing for the Olyroos against South Korea in the final match of a Four Nations Tournament in China this week.

Gameiro has had scans to confirm the injury, but the club was notified by FFA medical staff that he almost certainly ruptured his ACL.

Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold said it was shattering news to hear one of the club's most promising young players would require a full knee reconstruction.

"The kid is absolutely devastated," Arnold said.

"I'm confident Corey will come back even stronger than before, he's got the mental strength to do that, but it could be a long layoff."

Gameiro spent time on the sidelines last season after slipping on a ball during a promotional photo shoot.
