AFTER serving the people of the South Burnett for over 30 years a well-treasured community hub has had a million dollar transformation.

The old Graham House Community centre was demolished on Taylor St in Murgon to make way for the new $3.1 million dollar development.

Funded by the Palaszuzuk Government the modern centre will continue to provide community members with much needed services in the region.

On Tuesday, September 10 Minister for Communities, Disabilities Services and Seniors Coralee O'Rourke officially opened the new building.

She said these types of centres are vital to regional towns across Queensland.

"All of the people in that room is what drives me," Mrs O'Rourke said.

"Community centres like Graham House are the foundational block as to what brings people together.

"Although the old house had so much history and meaning, it was well past it's used by date."

"To be able to allow them to continue in new premises is so important."

"If it wasn't for Graham House and the staff and services out here, the people would be much worse off," she said.

The minister praised the services operating out of the centre and is looking forward to hearing about the stories that come from this next chapter.

Graham House Community Centre manager Christelle Withers-Mayne said the new development has allowed them to create a more cohesive team.

"In the old building we couldn't house all of our services under the one roof," Mrs Withers-Mayne said.

"Since 1989 Graham House has been operating in Murgon, which was brought to life by former councillor Colin Sippel.

"The department recognised it's importance in the community and has built us this lovely new building.

"We are now able to forge a more unified team," she said.

"It's a really exciting new phase for us.

"We have so many ideas for the future, so it will just be matter of getting funding and the personnel to make it happen."

The newly constructed Graham House Community Centre is located on Taylor St in Murgon.
