GALLERY: Country charm drives crowds in to Leyburn Sprints
LAUGHTER was the only sound that could be heard above the roar of the engines during the first day of the Historic Leyburn Sprints.
Crowds turned out in the thousands to celebrate the event's 24th anniversary and the mood, along with the weather, was sunny and bright.
There were seasoned veterans such as Dave Dunn from Brisbane, who said he attended every single year because it was ”the best event around” and the Johnson clan, for whom it is a family tradition.
There were also newbies from across the country, including Ken Nothdurft who had made the trip from the Sunshine Coast in search of a new and challenging track to test his driving skills.
Punters packed the streets to take photos, speak with the legends and make new friends.
”We came one year because our friends recommended it, and we haven't missed a year since!” said Grafton caravanner Robyn Nixon.
If you want to be part of the action, head down to Leyburn where the engines are starting up for another adrenaline fuelled day.
