Gale's perfect ride a big boost

UNDER-16 grommet Connor Gale was one of the stars of day two action at Rip Curl GromSearch yesterday.

With the contest held at the southern end of Park Beach, Connor found his perfect wave and scored a perfect 10-point ride in the second round heat.

It delivered him a mighty kick up the leaderboard after he'd landed in 44th position at the end of day one with a score of 4.47.

After the huge swell on Monday, conditions have settled.

The waves are still big, but the wind is much more manageable.

Quarter-finals for the premier boys' division start this morning.

Meanwhile, excitement is building since news broke that Lee Winkler's Surf School is bringing Mark Occhilupo to the Coffs Coast next Sunday.

The 1999 World champion will be star attraction at a free learn to surf day from 11am at Diggers Beach for kids aged between five and 12 years of age. Meet in the car park and look for the signs.

Billabong is giving away loads of prizes, signed posters and also photos with Occy.

Coopers Surf Australia is also giving away prizes for the kids who participate in the surfing session for best wave, best wipe-out and a couple of fun awards.

"Parents looking at having their kids enrolled in the new SurfGroms program, but who are still unsure if their kids will like it, should come down to have a look," Winkler said.

"Ask questions about the program and meet Occy.

"We're proud to be associated and want to promote a healthy lifestyle for the kids."
