Funeral mourns truckie ‘taken too soon’
FAMILY and friends gathered to farewell Michael 'Mick' Elliot in Coffs Harbour earlier this week.
Mr Elliot, 39, died in a single-vehicle crash on Sherwood Creek Rd at Corindi on Saturday July 9.
The much-loved truckie's casket was placed on the rear of a semi trailer which did a lap of Coffs Harbour finishing at the south wall.
It was a fitting tribute for the late father, who leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter, Lily Rose.
His daughter was aboard the truck with Mr Elliot's mother Debbie.
Mr Elliot's aunt, Gai Newman said the lap in the truck was a wonderful way to remember the 39-year-old, who was ' a very big hearted guy'.
"To have that last connection with him was amazing," Ms Newman said.
Ms Newman described her late nephew as 'a rebel, he was a wild child' who loved his daughter.
In line with Mr Elliot's fun-loving, optimistic nature, Ms Newman said family and friends cracked jokes and regaled shenanigans shared with Mr Elliot.
"We tried to keep it light, that's what he would of wanted," she said.
