Fun way to get kids eating healthy
KIDS and fruits and veggies went together like the Cookie Monster and your grandmother's biscuit tin yesterday.
This was all thanks to dietician Kate Wengier's Making Food Fun cooking sessions at the Palm Beach Parklands during the final day of the Tastes of Gold Coast Festival.
Ms Wengier said before her children's healthy eat- ing classes negative reactions from kids would be common.
"By the end I've had kids fighting over who would taste a pumkin seed.
"The aim and the general result is having them feeding off each other's energy to see who will try the most stuff."
Nerang's Lisa Williamson said her boys Harry, five, and Charlie, three, were isolated from junk food as much as possible.
"They both love chopping up fruit so this is a wonderful activity," she said.
"They don't understand the importance of eating healthy so we just tell them it will make them big and strong.
"By five I think they can at least begin to understand the reasons why they should eat healthy."
Harry said he loved strawberries and potatoes while Charlie said he
enjoyed eating carrots and popping grapes into his mouth.
"Harry will regularly wander to the fridge to grab an apple," Mrs Williamson said.
