Tri, Tri again as Festival toes start line for 27th year

IT'S that time of the year again: The 27th annual Woopi Tri Festival will be held September 19-20 at Woolgoolga Beach Reserve.

The festival is a weekend of activities including fun runs, Carb 'n' Curry Night and both short and long course triathlons.

Be there as the weekend kicks off with the 10th birthday of the Quality Inn Charity Fun Run on Saturday, September 19.

The 2km and 5km fun runs are open to people of all ages and abilities.

This year, participants have a chance to set course records, with the runs being timed for the first time.

Whether you are there to set the record, do a personal best, or just enjoy a walk with family or friends, everyone gets a medal as they cross the finish line.

Of course, being the 10th birthday celebrations for the fun runs, there will also be cake to enjoy.

Registration for the fun runs is on the day from 1.30pm at the Marine Rescue Hall at Woolgoolga Beach Reserve.

The 2km run costs $7 and starts at 3pm, while the 5km run costs $10 and starts at 3.30pm.

With the support of Michael Dougherty, from Quality Inn Coffs Harbour, this year the committee hopes to raise $500 to go to a local Northern Beaches family to assist them in building an outdoor play area for their child with special needs.

Registrations are open now for the triathlon events on the following day, Sunday, September 20.

Join in the short course (330m swim/6km cycle/2km run) or long course (800m swim/30km cycle/8km run) in the beautiful surrounds of Woolgoolga Beach.

Last year the triathlon events were booked to capacity and the weekend saw more than 250 participants.
