Fun fair from the Dark Ages

THE Yamba Museum will come alive at 10am on March 26 with all of the sights and sounds you would expect from a medieval fair.

The action-packed day has been organised to coincide with the March 25 opening of the museum’s new exhibition, Nursery Rhymes Exposed.

It aims to tell the story behind many of the nursery rhymes we know and love and give a little bit of insight as to why they were written.

All this will be done while keeping up the fun and entertainment with papier-mache figures and life-sized mannequins depicting the historical figures presented in the age-old tales.

Outside the museum, there will be traditional fair, replica tapestries and jewellery, pony rides, chess, bowls, Celtic dancing and archery. For the naughty, there will be stocks to sit in.

There will also be a children’s corner where youngsters will be entertained with nursery rhymes and games while their parents visit the exhibition. Children may also cast a line into the wishing well, hoping to pull out a gift.

What the co-ordinator Laura O’Brien is most excited about though, is the battle re-enactment by Rognvald’s Lith, who will be coming from Lismore for the celebration.

“They will come down in full costume and put on a really good show, full of excitement for everyone,” she said.

The event has been organised to have general appeal.

The Yamba Museum Medieval Fair will be on March 26, from 10am to 3.30pm.
