FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK (GYMPIE TIMES)
THE end of the week has rolled around once again and what a week for the Gympie region it was.
It was an intense week here in the newsroom. Next week is going to be even bigger.
If you are keen to watch the Queens Baton Relay through Gympie on Monday afternoon from 12.47pm - and who isn't? - we have a full list of every road closure and what time it will close, every baton carrier and a map tracing the route of the relay RIGHT HERE.
Gympie is a proud rugby league region and what great news it was this week to hear of the fortunes of the Gympie Devils turning around, due in no small part to the leadership and skills of new coach (and Deputy Gympie Mayor) Bob Leitch.
Go the Devils and the Stags! Let's hope they have a great 2018 season. Devils' numbers are so healthy it looks like Gympie could have a Reserve Grade league team this year.
Our annual My First Year feature went out on Wednesday, showcasing the best of the region's cuteness in our 613 Preppies who started school this year.
Just today we published the photos from 32 schools to our website. Check it out. If you want to purchase any of the photos just come in to our offices at 44 Nash Street.
Unnervingly - and no doubt more than a few people who will roll their eyes at this - there have been two croc sightings near Tin Can Bay, one where the beast was allegedly walking along a dirt road.
Speculation and disbelief about the Gympie (and the Tin Can Bay) croc will continue until someone gets a photo.
Amazing local news with a national angle and that promises to get even more "national” very soon (you will find out) is the support superstar Ed Sheeran has given to the Gympie campaign to fight bullying.
Ed took time out before one of his Brisbane concerts to meet with Gympie lads Murray Benton, Brian Birchall and Mathew Castley and encourage their great campaign and fight.
It's just another example of the urban myth/truth that All Roads Lead to Gympie.
Well that's about it from me for this week, but please don't hesitate to drop me a line if you think there's a story that needs telling, or if you have any comments to make on the news we deliver.
If there's something we could be doing better, I want to know about it.
IF you think there's something we have done really well, it's always good to hear about that too.
Drop me a line at email@example.com or give me a call on 54804233. That's my direct line.
Have a great weekend!
