A SARINA house is being offered free to anyone who can remove it.

The 116-year-old Queenslander, in the main street of Sarina, was one of the first houses built in the township.

"The house has a lot of history and is well known by the old-timers in the town," owner Lindsay Temple said.

"A lot of people from all over the state and interstate drop in from time to time for a visit because at one time or another they have lived in the home."

The Broad St house is situated between St Luke's Anglican Church and Sarina Council Chambers, on a quarter-acre block.

Mr Temple said the house was sound, with the structure predominately hardwood that had not been eaten by termites.

"We have another younger house that was built in the '50s next door, which used to be the old school headmaster's house," he said.

"At this time I'm only offering the 116-year-old home for free if someone can come and take it away.

"Because of its history it would be great if the person who does remove it keeps it all intact as it would be nice if the history survived.

"I don't want to see it destroyed so I'm trying to find someone who will take it, put it on their property, and hopefully restore it."

Mr Temple has been overwhelmed by the interest shown in the house and doesn't expect it to remain where it sits for long.

"At this time we have had about 30 enquiries and a man has come and had a look with a house removal company to measure up the home," he said.

"In a way, it will be sad to see it go, but there is great potential for the land, which is zoned for multi-dwellings, and the house is currently not being used."
