Free fitness classes for Coast gym's grand opening

THROW out the traditional gym membership and make way for a fun, fit, community environment.

Growing fitness franchise Fitstop is opening their 20th gym and second location on the Sunshine Coast.

Rob McKinnon is set to open the Warana gym next week to help more people reach their fitness goals through the fit, fast and functional classes.

He said the one thing missing from traditional gyms was the community feel and he wanted to create a place that felt like a second home.

"That's why I gravitated to Fitstop because it feels like a team environment and everyone feels a part of something," he said.

"I wanted to help people achieve results in a supportive, fun environment."

Mr McKinnon said a lot of people never actually used their gym memberships but the community culture would encourage people to commit to their goals.

"I can't go to normal gyms by myself, I'm too lazy and I don't push myself as hard as I should," he said.

"But with group classes, there's that accountability and it's kind of competitive but in a fun way."

Fitstop was designed to engage up to 35 participants in quick but effective classes while also encouraging human interaction after the rise of social media.

Mr McKinnon always had a passion for fitness through his years at the family owned Scuba World, Mooloolaba, and said he knew Fitstop was the perfect fit after attending the Maroochydore location for nine months.

"I've always had a massive attraction to fitness," he said.

"I've always played football, competitive surfing, touch football, it's always been a part of my life."

Fitstop Warana will open their doors on Saturday, May 18.

A free class will be held amongst a number of prizes and giveaways.

Acai Brothers and Nutrition Warehouse are some of the businesses who have jumped on board and will be giving away free acai bowls and samples.

Mr McKinnon said all were welcome to join the class or just to check out the new facilities.

"I love opening days, the vibe is unlike anything," he said.

The morning will be held from 7-9am followed by a week of free classes until May 25 to celebrate the grand opening. To try out the classes for free, download the Fitstop app and follow the prompts.
