Fran left shaken after accident

FRAN Bleeker is one lucky woman.

She was still shaking but managing a smile of relief moments after a car mounted the gutter in front of her at the Jetty Village Shopping Centre yesterday.

Fran, who has just moved here from Darwin, was on a seat outside the shopping centre waiting for her husband and son to return from the newsagency when she noticed an elderly woman driving into a parking space about 1pm. “But instead of hitting the brake she hit the accelerator and flew up onto the footpath and hit my seat,” Fran said.

“I knew straight away when I heard the accelerator pedal coming down what was going to happen.

“We were both looking at each other. It was like slow motion. The car just slightly clipped my knee.”

Neither woman was injured but the seat Fran had been sitting on will now need extensive repairs.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the scene and tow-truck operators also arrived to examine the damaged Mazda 323 Protege.
