Four lanes could become six on future Pacific Hwy upgrades
THE upgrade of the Pacific Hwy to dual carriageway could be even greater in the future.
While turning the first sod of the 23km stretch between the Oxley Highway and Kundabung, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure Warren Truss said current and future projects will have room for expansion in the years to come if it's needed.
Designs for the road include space for an expansion to six lanes in future.
"More and more people will choose to come this way, ironically one of the consequences of building a better road is more attraction for motorists and even trucks to use it," Mr Truss said.
"And for that reason, we've got to plan for increasing traffic, not just the traffic that is using it now."
