Foster carer mum of year

FOSTER carer Kaye Worth has been named Barnardos Australia's Mother of the Year 2010 at a gala dinner in Sydney.

Kaye, from Gosnells in Western Australia, was presented with her award by The Hon Tanya Plibersek MP, Minister for Housing and Minister for the Status of Women, who commended Kaye for the commitment she has shown as a foster carer.

At 68, the mother-of-three adult children has fostered more than 50 babies and children, many with disabilities or suffering from alcohol and drug withdrawal, over the past 15 years. She currently has a newborn baby in her care.

Kaye said that apart from bringing up her own children, fostering was the most fulfilling and rewarding things she had ever done.

“There was a family at my local church that used to do pre-adoptive fostering and being a 'baby person' as I call myself it was something I wanted to do," Kaye said.

“One day I got this feeling right in the pit of my stomach and I knew I had to start fostering.”

As the Barnardos Australia's Mother of the Year 2010, Kaye received a brand new Ford Fiesta from City Ford Sydney; a Murray River cruise from Captain Cook Cruises; a 42-inch digital LCD TV and a 19-inch LCD TV with DVD player from ALDI Stores; an Almay luxury cosmetics hamper; a flower arrangement from EasyFlowers; and a Lindt chocolates hamper.
