Former NRL star remains behind bars

FORMER NRL star Craig Field remains behind bars over the alleged 'king hit' murder of Cudgera Creek cattle farmer Kelvin Kane at Kingscliff last July.

His solicitor Stephen Buchanan appeared in Lismore Local Court this morning over representing Field, who is in custody at Silverwater's Metropolitan Reception and Remand Centre.

Field is yet to enter a plea over the incident which occurred on Sunday July 15, 2012.

Mr Kane died on hospital on July 16 as a result of injuries sustained in the alleged assault.

Field's co-accused Shaun Fathers, who was previously granted bail, was excused from appearing in court but was represented by his solicitor Cameron Bell.

Field and Fathers are both facing charges of murder over the incident that occurred outside The Kingscliff Beach Hotel.

Magistrate R Denes ordered the balance of the brief of evidence to be prepared by February 19 and adjourned both Field and Fathers matters until March 5 at Lismore Local Court.
