SUSPENDED A Current Affair reporter Ben McCormack has pleaded guilty to child porn charges.

The 42-year-old entered the shock plea when his case was mentioned at the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney this morning.

His solicitor Sam Macedone told Magistrate Jennifer Atkinson that McCormack had agreed on a set of facts with Commonwealth prosecutors and would now plead guilty to both charges.

He was remanded on bail to be sentenced next Friday, October 6 at the Sydney District Court.

McCormack was sensationally charged in April after raids on both his Sydney home and the A Current Affair offices at the Nine Network.

Mr Macedone told the Downing Centre Local Court earlier this month negotiations were progressing with Commonwealth prosecutors and asked the case be adjourned until today to allow the discussions to be completed.

Police allege McCormack engaged in explicit conversations about children with an adult male and discussed child pornography.

McCormack was initially charged with using a carriage service for child pornography material - but a second identical charge was laid by police against the senior journalist at a previous hearing.

The charges are punishable by up to 15 years' jail.

After his arrest he was admitted to a Sydney hospital - the name of which is suppressed - to receive mental health treatment.

McCormack has been suspended from the top rating A Current Affair.

His bail conditions were relaxed at the last hearing so he would only have to report to police once a week.
