Former boxing world champ charged with burglary

TOOWOOMBA boxing trainer Brendon Smith has parted ways with boxer Michael Katsidis after the former world champion boxer was charged with burglary.

Police charged Mr Katsidis on Wednesday with the offence relating to a break-in alleged to have occurred at a Boundary St home on July 24.

A police spokeswoman said a resident of the Glenvale home reported the break-in on July 27.

Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Paul McCusker said a 34-year-old man was charged in Brisbane on Wednesday.

"I am very disappointed and upset about it," Mr Smith said.

"We have worked very hard over the last 12 months after rejoining together."

Mr Katsidis is scheduled to fight boxer Tommy Coyle in Hull, England, on October 25.

His burglary matter is due to be mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 30.
