Lions working toward lighting up oval

COFFS City United Football Club is working hard to complete the McLean St Oval lighting upgrade to ensure players can train on all fields safely.

Club president Paul Israel said it had faced a series of speed bumps, especially with funding, to install the new light poles and provide the oval with sufficient power.

Despite two new lights provided by the council, Mr Israel says there's a lot of funding to be sourced in order to complete the lighting upgrade.

Mr Israel says the new lights provided will benefit players as training for the football season ramped up.

"They've just done brilliantly, for training and for social football they'll be great," Mr Israel said.

"But for us to complete the whole field and upgrade the power will cost us between $20,000 to $50,000 and that's what we're short and that's what we're hoping to get through funding."

Mr Israel said the club would apply for more council funding in the coming months.

He is asking the community to help support the upgrade to this important community asset for sports events on the Coffs Coast.
