Flying fox may have caused power outage

A WAYWARD Flying Fox is thought to be the reason for the power outage in Maclean, Townsend and Gulmarrad last night, which affected the power supply of 1290 customers.

Residents on Cameron and Jubilee Sts in Maclean reported hearing a loud bang coming from the direction of the power substation around 9.30pm just before the power went out.

An Essential Energy spokesperson said crews attended the site and inspected equipment at the Zone Substation before patrolling lines.

"A Flying Fox is suspected to have came into contact with lines, causing safety equipment to switch off power," the spokesperson said.

Power was restored to all customers by 10.10pm.
