Flying fox plan on the radar

THE Coffs Harbour community will be consulted over a Strategic Flying-Fox Camp Management Plan.

Coffs Harbour district is home to three permanent flying-fox camps one at Woolgoolga Lake which is listed as a nationally important flying-fox camp, the Coffs Creek Camp and the Toormina Camp, which is also listed as a nationally important flying-fox camp.

However, temporary flying fox camps are also established in other areas.

Using funds from the State Government and additional funding from the Environmental Levy Program the Coffs Harbour City Council's strategic plan will allow for the development of a consistent approach to flying-fox management that recognises ecological values while minimising community impacts.

A community steering committee will be involved in the council plan's development and review.

Expressions of interest will be invited from residents surrounding the three permanent camps in addition to targeted invitations to local interest groups early in the new year.
