Flood works fast-tracked with loan

COFFS Harbour City Council has invited the community to a public meeting to hear about the progress of its Flood Mitigation Works Program.

The meeting, to be held at 7pm, on Tuesday, March 9, at the Rainbow Room of the C.ex Coffs, is a follow-up to the first community forum held last November.

“Council made it clear to the community at that meeting that we were going to focus on flood mitigation as a priority and we are following through on that promise,” Coffs Harbour mayor Councillor Keith Rhoades said. Last November, council agreed to take out a $6 million loan to help fast-track flood mitigation works.

The loan, which is already in place, will be used to help fund the first phase of a city-wide flood mitigation, stormwater and drainage works program.

The centrepiece of this program is the construction of a series of flood retention basins. Work is due to be completed in May on the first of the retention basins near William Sharp Drive in West Coffs.
