Float on down to mini marathon

THE Three Rivers Mini Marathon at Port Macquarie is a little more than a month away and organisers are busy promoting it as different from the rest.

For a start, it is open to all non-motorised craft that float.

That means past entries have included sculls, recreational and racing kayaks, outriggers, surf and dragon boats, canoes, skiffs and fishing kayaks.

The 26 kilometre aquatic odyssey takes participants through the Wilson, Maria and Hastings rivers.

The mini marathon starts on Wilson River, launching at Log Wharf at Telegraph Point, just beneath the Pacific Highway bridge.

Organisers are hoping many Coffs Coast’s paddlers will enter the race on August 8 as they believe the race length is the perfect sprint distance for athletes in training and not too onerous for the recreational or family paddler.

Those who prefer to cover the distance in a more leisurely fashion can enjoy the picturesque riverbank scenery as they paddle. Entry forms for the Three Rivers Mini Marathon are available from www.portmacquarierowing.com.au.
