Fitness with Alex Kertesz: 10,000 reasons for a challenge
HEALTH AND FITNESS: State of Origin is a great time of year.
Yes, we get to see the best and most exciting style of rugby league played, but we also get to see and hear more about our patriotism to our state, our excitement over competition and our love for rugby league from the people we are connected to.
Competition is a great driver of motivation; it gives us purpose, because we want to win. Mix this with patriotism, by representing your tribe, deliver a sense of working towards something bigger than yourself, and you have a recipe for effort and achievement.
The Mackay Institute of Research and Innovation is leading a health challenge against neighbouring Rockhampton, giving a chance for each of us to dial into some of our competitive nature and show our patriotism and pride for the Mackay region.
Partnering with 10,000 Steps and CQ University, the challenge aims to promote physical activity, direct and incidental, and awareness of its large impact on reducing disease risk and improving health in our region.
The challenge has been issued to see who can reach the title of healthiest regional community by getting everyone involved; logging steps and recording waist measurement and kilos.
This gives us all a chance to get our teams and tribes within the Mackay area to work together towards the common goal.
Individuals, families, schools, businesses and organisations can all easily register to rack up the amount of physical activity and steps we can achieve together.
If we can do this, we will claim a title over the Rockhampton area, all while spreading and promoting the health benefits of physical activity.
The QCCS Mackay Cutters will be tracking and logging the amount of physical activity done over the coming weeks at training and contributing this information to our partners within the 10,000 Steps program to help towards securing victory within this challenge.
Register now, talk to your boss, your school's principal, your family and get them to register; and start working towards a win for Mackay and for your tribe's health.
