Fishos’ future known soon

THE question mark surrounding the future of the Coffs Harbour Deep Sea Fishing Club is expected to be answered in coming weeks, as negotiations with potential investors near a conclusion.

Coffs Harbour Deep Sea Fishing Club president Bill Mabey said talks are continuing with two local parties with a decision expected by the end of the month.

The discussions follow a 45-day extension granted by creditors in May, after the venue fell into voluntary administration earlier this year.

"We're still working on deed of company arrangement proposal but we're very hopeful it will be resolved in the coming weeks," he said.

Mr Mabey said significant changes are included in the proposal, with a focus on the recreational activities as a fishing club

He said the community response to the club's closure - which sparked the creation of the "Save the Fishos" community group, was a positive sign for the club's future.

"Based on the community response we've received, there will definitely be a future for the club," he said.

One amalgamation offer was previously declined by administrators Grant Thornton Australia.
