Kids learn to fish at workshop

LEARNING to fish has never been so much fun and it’s certainly hooked Woolgoolga Public School student Paris Grayson and volunteer Ian Watson. The pair was at Coffs Creek Reserve yesterday for a fishing workshop that teaches children about sustainable and safe fishing and habitat protection.

Department of Industry and Investment officials and Fishcare volunteers showed them the ropes on size and bag limits, catch and release skills, casting and rod care, and knots and rigging.

“We hope they will develop an interest in recreational fishing and an understanding of how to do that sustainably,” said the department’s schools manager Louise Roberts.
