WHEN California's San Andreas fault gives way, it will be a national nightmare according to the first trailer for upcoming Dwayne Johnson's disaster movie.
San Andreas stars Johnson as a rescue helicopter pilot who, along with his estranged wife (Carla Gugino), attempts to make his way from Los Angeles to San Francisco to find his daughter after a mammoth magnitude 9 earthquake rocks America's west coast.
But the two-minute trailer alludes to a national disaster, with actor Paul Giamatti's character telling an interviewer the effects will be felt across the country.
"Even though this is happening here in California, you will feel it on the east coast," he says.
Skyscrapers and the Hollywood sign are seen tumbling before the Hoover Dam, on the border of Arizona and Nevada, can be seen crumbling.
The $100 million blockbuster was filmed largely at Movie World on the Gold Coast, as well as the Lockyer Valley, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
It is the third project Johnson has worked on with producer Beau Flynn, who also worked alongside the former WWE wrestler on Hercules and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
San Andreas also stars Alexandra Daddario, Ioan Gruffudd and Game of Thrones' Art Parkinson as well as Aussies Hugo Johnstone-Burt and Kylie Minogue in a cameo.
San Andreas opens in May, 2015.
