Firearm parts and ammunition found in crashed car

A MAN has been refused bail to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court today after police allegedly located firearm components and ammunition in a vehicle after a collision.

About 11pm on Saturday,  a 34-year-old man was driving a Volkswagen Golf south on the Pacific Hwy in Coffs Harbour, when it left the road and rolled onto its roof.

The driver was conveyed to Coffs Harbour Health Campus for minor injuries.

As police recovered his damaged vehicle, they allegedly located a number of firearm components as well as a quantity of ammunition in the car.

Also allegedly located were two prohibited assault rifle; six .22 rifle magazines; a large amount of arrow heads; a bayonet and sheath; and a small amount of cannabis leaf.

When the man was released from hospital he was arrested and conveyed to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he was charged with six offences.

The charges include three counts of acquire firearm part without authority to do so; one count of possess ammunition without holding a licence, one count of possess a prohibited weapon without permit and one count of possess prohibited drug.
