Fire destroys Corindi bush and occupies multiple crews

A LARGE grass fire has destroyed several hectares of bushland near Corindi.

A fire was reported just after 4.30pm on New Year's Day and it kept multiple Corindi-Red Rock Rural Fire Service crews busy prior with flames still being contained at nightfall.

The majority of the firefighting was on Red Rock Rd near the intersection of James Runner Rd as a pall of smoke clouded the summer sky on the Northern Beaches.

A total fire ban was in place in several regions of NSW yesterday but on the Mid North Coast where temperatures soared to above 30 degrees.

The fire at Corindi Beach was not the only one to be fanned by the warm conditions with fire crews also responding to calls at Nambucca Heads and south of Grafton.
