IT was a moment that will be beamed around the world - the meeting of one of the city's big fins and a world rally driver all the way from Finland.

Mikko Hirvonen yesterday joined his fellow Ford World Rally Championship drivers for a dip at the Pet Porpoise Pool, and struck up a friendship with Bucky, which needs no words.

For Mikko, Jari-Matti Latvala, Khalid Al Qassimi, Matthew Wilson, Henning Solberg, Ken Block and Evgeny Novikov yesterday was all about taking in the sights.

Today the focus will be on the business end of the rally.

This afternoon from 4.30 drivers and co-drivers will meet their fans in City Square and then head down to the fore shores for first of the Super Special Stages.
