Final two-party preferred figures for Cowper are in

IT TOOK a week for the official two party preferred result for Cowper to come through but now it's official.

Incumbent MP Luke Hartsuyker has been returned to Parliament but the final vote tally shows there was a significant swing against him.

There was a touch more than 97,000 votes counted for the race between Mr Hartsuyker and Independent candidate Rob Oakeshott.

Mr Hartsuyker eventually won the seat easily enough with 54.85% but it's a 6.86% less share than what the Nationals stalwart received in the 2013 federal election.

That swing is almost twice as much as the swing that went nationally against the Malcolm Turnbull led Coalition.
