Fijian flair could lift Magpies
AFTER an intensive search, the Bellinger Valley-Dorrigo Rugby League Club has finally signed a coach for the 2015 season.
Villiame Tukana Domo is his name ... but you can call him Bill Tukana.
Magpies' president Stephen Glyde said the Fiji-born import is well-credentialed and very confident he can lift the club to a higher level.
"Bill has played for a number of clubs but in his early years he played for Nadera Panthers," Glyde said.
This is the same club that produced former Fiji international Meli Kaidrokia who starred for the club in the 1990s.
Bellingen has been very successful with star players from that part of the world with Jone Kuraduadua one of the most exciting winger-centres to play in Group 2.
"Bill has played previously with clubs in Australia and England and has gained experience by being exposed to a number of coaches," Glyde added.
"He has played one Test match for Fiji Bati against the Kumuls in Port Moresby and said it was a nerve-wracking time.
"In 2013 he was in the World Cup training squad but unfortunately did not make the final team.
"As he plays in the front row, Bill should be a big help leading the younger Magpies."
A dedicated family man, Bill's wife and three children will remain in Fiji for the time being while he continues building a coaching reputation he hopes could lead to coaching his national team.
