Fight between Millmerran brothers ends in stabbing

JUST what prompted such an angry response from a Millmerran teenager who twice stabbed his brother was not fully explained before Toowoomba District Court.

The court heard Jai Graham Klein, then 19, had been woken by his brother Jayden, 22, on September 1, last year, and the pair had engaged in an argument.

Jai Klein suddenly ran into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and chased his brother out of the house and down the street.

During the chase Jai Klein twice stabbed his brother, once to the left hip and once to the left armpit, the court heard.

Klein, now 20, pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful wounding.

His barrister Frank Martin said the two had since resolved their differences.

They both played for the Millmerran Rams rugby league team and his client had just this week driven his brother to training, he said.

Mr Martin said his client had no criminal history at all and was due to complete a diesel fitter apprenticeship next January.

The victim of the stabbing didn't want to see his brother go to jail for the incident, Mr Martin submitted.

Judge Ian Dearden said, thankfully, Klein's brother had recovered from his wounds and noted the family still supported him.

Noting Klein's early plea of guilty and his otherwise clean record, Judge Dearden sentenced him to 18 months jail, but ordered the whole term be suspended forthwith for two years.
