Innovation festival under way

THE North Coast Innovation Festival is under way with creative classes and events for business owners, farmers, builders, fishers and community organisations at local venues throughout May.

Some of the local highlights include:

Sustainability – a seminar examining the role innovation can play in achieving carbon reductions of 40% by 2020 in the Bellingen community. The session will be held between 5pm and 8pm on Tuesday, May 3, at the Bellingen Valley Motor Inn. Bookings 6655 7314.

Sustainability through Solar – find out more about the benefits of solar and how to find the best technology available. This seminar will be held on Wednesday, May 18, Norm Jordan Pavilion, from 5.30pm. Bookings 6652 9700.

Diversification ideas for prawn farmers – explores new opportunities for diversification within the land-based aquaculture sector. Seminar will be held at the National Marine Science Centre, Monday, May 23, 10am to noon, followed by a tour of the centre. Bookings 6648 3914.

Innovation in Manufacturing – see the latest manufacturing developments in windmills, buses and concrete girders in the Nambucca Shire. Tour on Tuesday, May 24, 9am to 11am, limited seats. Bookings 6568 0226.

Innovative home building alternatives – learn about the environmentally friendly homes that withstand earthquakes and floods plus are occupant-ready in six weeks. Session to be held on Tuesday, May 24, 11.30am at Memod, Unit 8, 62 Boultwood St, Coffs Harbour.
