Festival lures anglers

THE 14th Annual Putt Bennett Family Fishing Festival held at the weekend was the most successful event yet, according to organisers.

More than 600 anglers took part, with many new and young people joining in.

A total of 648 fish were weighed in over the weekend, of which 269 were released live as part of the festival's catch-and-release focus highlighting the importance of responsible recreational fishing.

Presentations for more than 130 different categories and prizes were conducted in the family-friendly and comfortable surrounds of the North Beach Recreation and Bowling Club on Sunday afternoon. Major prize winners were:

Major raffle - 1st: the 3.2-metre boat, Kobin Hazam; 2nd: two-man kayak, Tony Perry; 3rd: one-man kayak, Michael Clarke; 4th: dinner for two, Sharon McCulloch

The winning champion fishing family was the Kirkman family, runners-up were the Taylor family with the McLaughlan family.
